Bye-Bye 50 Projects Challenge, Hello 10 Projects Challenge

It’s official. I did it. I dumped the 50 Projects Challenge. I failed. Miserably. I had the best of intentions, but the way I’ve been treating exemptions, I obviously cannot, realistically, hold myself to this challenge.

So, say goodbye to the 50 Projects Challenge and hello to the first in a string of many 10 Projects Challenges.

I feel much better about this. It encourages me to finish projects in my stash and yet allows me to still acquire new items with minimal guilt. I am going to try to limit myself to the purchase of one new chart or kit after each successful completion of a 10 project challenge. I think that’s pretty reasonable.

I made the official start date May 1st, since I have not actually purchased any new charts since my trip to Shepherd’s Bush in Utah in March. Okay, well, I purchased a Story Keep chart from Heaven and Earth Designs the other day… But, considering the massive amounts of temptation sitting at my fingertips due to the inception of One Star’s Light, I think that I have been an awfully good girl!

I’ve had 6 finishes since May 1st, so I only have 4 more projects to go before I get a reward. Yippee! I think I’ll be able to do that sometime this month and then buy one of the charts that is calling me with its sweet, siren song. πŸ˜€

Thanks for your input!

I failed at the 50 too, so you’re in good company πŸ™‚ I think 10 sounds much more manageable – it’s a hobby and it’s supposed to be fun, right?…

  2. Isabelle says:

    That’s a great decision, Jenna. πŸ™‚

  3. Vonna says:

HURRAY! I say live life on the edge! Spur on the economy and bury yourself in charts that you’ll never stitch! It makes life sweeter!

  4. Barbara says:

Has anyone made it to 50? I don’t see it as a failure, but as an attempt to do something nearly impossible. Like ‘love thy neighbor’ when you’re living next door to a hip-hop loving party-goer who never takes out his trash and lets his dog poop on your lawn. πŸ˜‰

You go-go-go with the 10 project challenge!

Someone did post this week on The Wagon that they made 50. 1Terry, I think, but I’m not completely positive on that.

I got about 75% of the way through a 25 challenge before Camp Stitch-a-lot, and there is no way I can go to Camp and not stash. I even knew going in that I had till March 16 to complete 25, and I had a good run going there, just couldn’t quite make it. I’m on another 25 because I’m also on the Abstinence Wagon and so I’m not supposed to be buying anything anyway.

Which is why Lady P is killing me with the Cthulhu biscornu!!!! I want I want I want!

    Jenn L. : Aren’t I evil? 8) πŸ˜†

  7. Laura says:

I think that sounds like a capital idea, Jenna. Must easier to manage. And quicker rewards.

By the way, I’ve tagged you. Go to my blog to see what to do. πŸ˜‰

  8. Melanie says:

Meh. Challenges and the like (except when I’m abstinent by reason of poverty!) just don’t work for me. Or rotations. Or rules in general. Hobbies are supposed to be enjoyable – if you have the money to spare and you enjoy spending it on your hobby, what’s wrong with that?

  9. Anne S says:

Good on you for throwing in the towel – all this self-imposed pressure isn’t worth it! Can’t wait to see what new goodies you bring home πŸ˜€

  10. Cathy says:

That sounds like a much more manageable challenge! We’re supposed to enjoy our stitching, right?

  11. Dawn says:

Glad you made your decision:) I know I wouldn’t even last 10 projects !

  12. Karoline says:

Sounds like you’ve made the right decision for you, good luck with it

  13. Michelle says:

Good for you. This allows you to still feel a sense of accomplishment without feeling deprived. Hurrah!

  14. Christine D says:

Good idea! I am sure this will work for you.

  15. JennL says:

    Outi said: “Jenn L. : ArenÒ€ℒt I evil? 8)”

Totally evil but I loveya all the same!!

  16. suz says:

I think my comment got eaten. Yay for you!

And Cthulu? I must now search. I had no idea.

  17. Jenn L says:

Yes, Suz, you totally need that one!!!

  18. Coral says:

I didn’t ‘sign up’ as I knew I would be setting mself up for failure. Good for you for admitting to it! I would have not said anything and just started buying!! Tee hee!!

  19. Lelia says:

IMO, everybody needs to dump the ‘challenge’ esp b/c it puts needlework shops out of business : ) LOL

Having said that …. between the dental work I had, car ‘stuff’, and tomorrow’s new tires .. I’m beyong flat broke.

It seems to go ‘out’ faster than it comes ‘in’ … YIKES : (
