Advice on Blocking

Okay, has anyone ever blocked a cross stitch project when finished? Due to the amount of pull that I had to do on my mystery sampler in order to get any sort of effect with the coil filling on that heavy Monaco fabric, the fabric is very distorted around that section and I need to pull it straight before I can finish it as a bellpull. Does anyone have instructions for how to block fabric? I don’t know what I’m doing or if I even have the materials needed to do so?

Help! Please. 🙂

I don’t think I’ve ever blocked a project, other than smoothing and straightening the fabric after washing it. My suggested would be to put the design on a frame and pin it in place using tacks, kind of like what’s used for canvaswork. I tried a quick Google search but a lot of the links dealt with quilt blocks. Hope someone is able to help you!!

Christine’s link is pretty good, Jenna. I have a lace shaping board that has a grid on the other side. I pin the stitching to the grid then usually steam the piece, if it can handle the steam, then let completely dry.
    Good luck!!
