We were working on the basement today. Sorting through boxes, making piles of things to go into the trash, things to go to other people and things to go into the attic. Then, we moved things up into the attic. Terry was kind enough to buy and set up some shelving units up there Thursday night in order to increase our storage capacity. Once we clean up the basement a bit, I will move all of the ONS product and materials down there, get organized and set up a staging and packaging area.<\/p>\n
We were done moving things around for a while, but I decided to continue organizing the piles a little bit more before I quit. Because that’s just how I am. I wasn’t satisfied that my vision of clearing out that half of the basement had been achieved. Terry calls it having a bee in my behind. \ud83d\ude00 So, I was moving a really pretty candle stand that my grandmother bought us a year or so ago and the top came away from the bottom in my hands. I went to pick up the floral ring and find out where the base went and I found it suddenly and violently. It had a razor sharp edge that I couldn’t even see and it slashed along the side of my right forefinger and immediately started to bleed. Shocked and scared, I yelled for Terry.<\/p>\n
Poor Terry, I think I scared him half to death. Thankfully, he knows the sound of urgency in my voice and came running right away. The amount of bright red liquid coming out of my finger was quite alarming. I was caught between staring in fascination at the interesting substance flowing out of me and being scared because this was MY blood! Of course, I was crying and I was afraid to take the pressure off of my finger long enough for Terry to get a look at the wound because I thought it would start gushing all over again.<\/p>\n
Fortunately, the blood loss was minimal because I clamped down on it so quickly. Probably less than the vial a lab would take for blood tests. Just very frightening for me. I have a deep-seeded fear of losing a finger and no longer being able to enjoy so many of the creative activities that I love. That and the last time I cut myself (many years ago), it kept breaking back open and I ended up waiting in the hospital for hours on New Year’s Day until they could put stitches in my other forefinger.<\/p>\n
So now, no stitching for me now and Terry’s comment on the basement was “you’re done for the day.” I’m also not sure how well I’m going to be able to work on drawing my logo tonight as I had originally planned.
