{"id":332,"date":"2005-12-24T00:01:19","date_gmt":"2005-12-24T05:01:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/52.52.55.152\/?p=332"},"modified":"2005-12-23T10:45:52","modified_gmt":"2005-12-23T15:45:52","slug":"a-stitchers-christmas-eve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jennamagee.com\/?p=332","title":{"rendered":"A Stitcher&#8217;s Christmas Eve"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Posted originally to the Wagon BB, I pulled this down to post on just such a special occasion.<br \/>\nEnjoy and Merry Christmas to all of my friends!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nTwas the night before Christmas, and, oh, I was weary.<br \/>\nMy stitching unfinished, my eyes getting bleary.<br \/>\nThe stockings weren&#8217;t finished, the chimney was bare.<br \/>\nAnd I knew that morning soon would be there.<\/p>\n<p>My children and husband were tucked in their beds,<br \/>\nBut visions of backstiches ran through my head.<br \/>\nI&#8217;d stitched ornaments and presents and gifts by the ton,<br \/>\nAnd now, I was finally, almost, almost done.<\/p>\n<p>As I poised my needle for one more backstitch,<br \/>\nI heard something outside that made my hand twitch.<br \/>\nI jumped up from my stitching, and flew to the door,<br \/>\nPressed my eye to the peephole, tip-toe off the floor.<\/p>\n<p>My stitching forgotten, I peered into the night.<br \/>\nWhen suddenly, I got a terrible fright.<br \/>\nOn my porch appeared Santa, holding his sack.<br \/>\nHe knocked softly, and I took a giant step back.<\/p>\n<p>I unlocked the deadbolt, and let Santa in,<br \/>\nHe entered and gave a mischievous grin.<br \/>\n&#8220;Hope you don&#8217;t mind if I come in the door?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Coming down the chimney can be quite a chore.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He said &#8220;You&#8217;re up late. Still working I see.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Do you know how tired you&#8217;re going to be?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;I know, Santa,&#8221; I said, with a sigh,<br \/>\n&#8220;But I&#8217;m still backstitching the stars in the sky,&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And the fields on that stocking look blobby you know,<br \/>\nI need to backstitch the drifts in the snow.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve been stitching and stitching and stitching, no rest.<br \/>\nI just tried to finish stitching too much, I guess.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I know what you mean,&#8221; he said with a smile.<br \/>\n&#8220;This is my busiest time of the year, by a mile.&#8221;<br \/>\nHe stooped down by the tree, and he opened his sack,<br \/>\nAnd began to pull presents out of his pack.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve got some things here I think you might like,<br \/>\nAn oak stitching frame, and a brand new Ott-Light.<br \/>\nA bundle of floss, and a great big mat cutter,&#8221;<br \/>\nI smiled and felt my heart go a-flutter. <\/p>\n<p>He put down gifts for us all, then he waved his right hand.<br \/>\n&#8220;Go to bed,&#8221; he said, glancing at my floor stand.<br \/>\nHe gave me a wink, and stepped out the door.<br \/>\nI just stood there a moment, glued to the floor.<\/p>\n<p>After he&#8217;d left, I turned back to my chair,<br \/>\nPicked up the stockings, and started to stare.<br \/>\nThe backstitching was done! The stars lit the sky!<br \/>\nAnd on my son&#8217;s stocking angels sung on high. <\/p>\n<p>I ran to thank Santa for this final gift,<br \/>\nAnd watched as his sleigh started to lift.<br \/>\nI heard him exclaim as he pulled out of sight,<br \/>\n&#8220;Merry stitching to all, and to all a good night!&#8221;\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Posted originally to the Wagon BB, I pulled this down to post on just such a special occasion.
