101 Things

The Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on your part).

    Technical:

  1. Sign up for Lynda.com again and work through an Intro to Photoshop tutorial
  2. Practice sketching via computer using the graphic tablet at least once a month
  3. Create graphics for website as (or close to) originally envisioned
  4. Redesign my personal website using new graphics
  5. Learn how to create a WordPress template
  6. Redesign my blog using new graphics
  7. Learn how to fully customize Gallery
  8. Redesign my photo gallery using new graphics
  9. Write my own web-based stash inventory software using Java
  10. Teach or present at least 2 times a year
  11. Update my resume at least once a year
    House – Interior:

  1. Finish beadboard, window sills and trim work in master bedroom
  2. Buy furniture for master bedroom
  3. Replace blinds in master bedroom
  4. Finish trim work in the reading room
  5. Buy or build bookcases for the reading room
  6. Buy and install a cabinet with counter space against the kneewall
  7. Sort through boxes in basement and throw away non-essentials
  8. Move remaining boxes from basement to attic for storage
  9. Find a place to take our old computer equipment and clear it from the basement
  10. Design and build a computer room/home office in the basement
  11. Move all computer equipment from the computer room upstairs to the new area in the basement
  12. Plan, design and build or buy organization for the old computer room to become the new craft room and yet still have room for guests, if needed (i.e. collapsible work areas, mobile storage containers, etc.)
  13. Turn the old craft room into a music room, including room for computer hooked to keyboard, one or two music stands and music and accessory storage, and still have (limited) room for guests, if needed
  14. Spend at least 30 minutes a week cleaning the house
    House – Exterior:

  1. Buy and install fencing along front and one side of property
  2. Clear out the “oasis” area and prepare ground for planting
  3. Design and plant a shade garden in the “oasis” area
  4. Plan and create a solid path to the clearing in the back woods
  5. Plan and clear a path to the back of the property
  6. Build a gazebo in the natural clearing in the back woods
  7. Buy or build a trellis for the entrance to the paths into the woods and plant wisteria
  8. Design and plant privacy and sound screen between shed and back woods
  9. Design and plant decorative privacy mound between shed and back of house
  10. Grow lavender seedlings and plant along driveway
  11. Buy or borrow a pressure washer and clean the entire exterior siding of house
  12. Design and plant a butterfly/hummingbird garden
    Crafts – Stitching:

  1. Stitch at least one hardanger curtain panel
  2. Finish stitching and frame Fairy Moon by Mirabilia; hang in craft room?
  3. Finish stitching and frame Bonsai and Buddha by Dimensions; hang in dining room
  4. Stitch and frame two smaller, matching Oriental designs by Dimensions; hang in dining room
  5. Finish stitching and “finish” Christmas stockings for me and Terry
  6. Take at least 1 stitching class (in person)
  7. Submit at least one entry into a Silkweaver competition
  8. Stitch from my stash for at least 3 months at a time before buying anything new
  9. Stitch at least one Christmas ornament for myself every 2 months
  10. DO NOT take on more than 1 stitching commitment per month!
  11. Finish and frame Heirloom Memories Sampler by The Victoria Sampler in honor of Terry’s mom
    Crafts – Scrapbooking:

  1. Keep a scrapbook of stitching accomplishments
  2. Finish our Disney honeymoon scrapbook
  3. Create a scrapbook for our 5th anniversary trip to Walt Disney World
    Crafts – Other:

  1. Refinish and decoratively paint old dresser in spare bedroom
  2. Create oriental styled paper shades for dining room windows
  3. Create stained glass mirror (via kit) for Gram
  4. Knit at least one Teeny Tiny Felted Purse for myself
  5. Finish knitting my purple and pink eyelash scarf
  6. Sew at least 3 new articles of clothing for myself each year
    Music:

  1. Practice flute at least twice a month
  2. Practice piano at least once a month
  3. Practice singing at least once a month (buy some vocal training books or CDs?)
  4. Spend at least one hour a week listening to music
    Art:

  1. Read and work through one art book every two months
  2. Practice basic drawing techniques at least twice a month until ready for more advanced techniques
  3. Buy a new camera and learn how to operate it to the full extent of its capabilities
  4. Practice photography at least once a month
    Writing:

  1. Plan at least one major writing project
  2. Write in my creative journal at least once a month
  3. Write in my miscellaneous journal (or create a significant blog entry to capture my thoughts) at least once a month
    Reading:

  1. Read at least one “fun” book every three months
  2. Read at least one self-help or educational book every three months
  3. Buy one or more bird books to start identifying the various species around our house
  4. Buy one or more astronomy books to identify various constellations throughout the year
    Travel:

  1. Visit London again; see Big Ben and Parliament, ride the Eye
  2. Spend a week in Walt Disney World again
  3. Plan 10th anniversary trip to Paris in 2009
  4. Take a daytrip to Washington, DC with my parents
  5. Take a daytrip to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, MD
    Health:

  1. Exercise at least 3 times a week
  2. Do whatever is necessary to get 7 hours of sleep at least 5 nights a week
  3. Do core exercises at least 5 nights a week
  4. Spend at least 30 minutes a week doing some yoga
  5. Take a multivitamin every day
  6. Go for a walk at least 3 times a week (barring weather issues)
    General Generosity:

  1. Donate the Olympus and Casio digital cameras
  2. Donate my wedding dress to a charity organization
  3. RAK at least one person per month, even if it is just a card, a note or a little something
  4. Send a birthday remembrance to at least 10 stitching blogger friends a year
  5. Make at least 4 charitable donations a year (Done for 2006, 2007, 2008)
    Fiscal:

  1. Put approximately 5% of my monthly income into savings
  2. Pay off Terry’s truck
    Personal:

  1. Take at least 1 class per year to further my education, sharpen my skills or expand my creative knowledge
  2. Spend at least 30 minutes on myself 3 times a week or more
  3. Get rid of (and replace, where appropriate) all items of clothing which do not properly fit
  4. Go somewhere that requires getting “all dolled up” at least twice a year
    Relationships:

  1. Have at least 1 date night a month with Terry
  2. Call at least 1 long distance friend a month
  3. Send a note to Gram at least once a month
  4. Respond to personal emails within one week
  5. Devote at least 30 minutes of exclusive attention to Phoebe a week
    List Administration:

  1. Update this list at least once a month
  2. When 1001 days are up, update this list and start the process all over again!
