I Freaking ROCK!

Sorry, but I just had to pat myself on the back. I’ve been having terrible, anxiety-ridden dreams flashing back to my days of flute auditions for competitions when I was in high school, except in these dreams, I sucked. And um… well I didn’t, in real life. I won’t go on and on bragging, but I was #1 in Pennsylvania and #4 on the eastern seaboard (and that’s partially because I didn’t have enough time to practice – put it this way, the girl who got second chair, I beat in a previous competition).

Anyway, enough of the ego stroking. The point was that all of these dreams prompted me to put down my stitching after an hour and to go up and pull out my poor, neglected flute. It took a few minutes to get warmed up, but then I was flying through pieces like I haven’t in years – literally. Seriously, I didn’t play most of the time that I had my braces (which were on for a year and a half or so) because I had just finally perfected my embouchure and I didn’t want to screw it up by having to relearn how to play with metal plastered all over my teeth. Once the braces came off two years ago, I played a couple of times and that was it.

The bottom line is that, after not having seriously played for over 3 years, I picked it up and sounded awesome. Thus, I freaking ROCK! 😆

I always envied the girls who played flute – it’s such an ethereal sound, such a graceful instrument. It seemed to me the epitome of femininity.

I played slide trombone. LOL – that says it all, doesn’t it?

That’s weird, Jenna, I’ve been having dreams that I was playing the violin again, after all those years. (I played the violin from age 5 till 15)
But I don’t think I’d catch up again that fast. LOL.

Glad you’ve still got it. My poor, sad flute doesn’t get taken out at all. The kids are way too interested in all those shiny buttons, and frankly, I paid way too much for that flute for them to stick their grubby hands all over it!

As for the hand-dyeds, the ones I’ve seen, I don’t think I’d actually stitch on. They’re pretty by themselves, but I often think that designs stitched on hand-dyed fabrics often look too busy. If they were hand-dyed a solid color, I might like them, but then, why spend all that money for solid fabric, right? I don’t know, maybe I’ve just never seen nice hand dyed fabric. I know other people love them, but I often think they look tie-dyed!

How wonderful!! I tried to play flute in elementary school, but no amount of teaching seemed to help me read music! My daughter is learning clarinet!

Good for you! I played the flute for years, but now wonder if I could even begin to remember any of the fingering!

I haven’t even thought of playing the flute in years. I had hoped Krissy would take it up but she picked the clarinet.

    Have a great weekend!!
